Quantifying Particle Breakage and Its Evolution Using Breakage Indices and Grading Entropy Coordinates

چکیده

Particle breakage in soils is a well-recognised behaviour. Conventional methods for quantifying the process rely on calculating area between particle size distribution (PSD) curves produced before and after crushing. A key aspect of understanding across different size/sieve fractions. Grading entropy coordinates allow representation any PSD to be shown as single point Cartesian plane are able track grading evolution with relative ease. In this study, compared three commonly used indices (Br, Br* IG). It that advantageous over traditional subtle changes directly provide further insight regards individual fraction sizes. also discussed conventional measures dependent assumptions an initial and/or final PSD. contrast, depend only characteristics (current) curve. was observed captured by determine rate at which differently sized particles break take stress. Moreover, it suggested may stress path dependency, feature not present indices.

The Fragile Breakage versus Random Breakage Models of Chromosome Evolution

For many years, studies of chromosome evolution were dominated by the random breakage theory, which implies that there are no rearrangement hot spots in the human genome. In 2003, Pevzner and Tesler argued against the random breakage model and proposed an alternative "fragile breakage" model of chromosome evolution. In 2004, Sankoff and Trinh argued against the fragile breakage model and raised...

Parametric dependence of particle breakage mechanisms

It has been observed that the pattern of particle impact breakage in two-dimensional systems is a result of two mechanisms. AMechanism IB accounts for the breakage induced by the stresses that appear in unbroken particles. AMechanism IIB breakage is due to the buckling of the Mechanism I fragments. The purpose of this paper is to try and understand the parameters that govern the magnitude of th...

Computer simulation of impact-induced particle breakage

The breakage induced in single circular particles that impact on solid plates has been studied using a two-dimensional simulation of solid fracture. The simulation allows the computer 'experimenter' to vary independently material properties such as Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio and work of fracture, flexibility that is unavailable in direct experimentation. Where comparison is possible, the ...

Micromechanical Considerations of Particle Breakage Using Discrete Element Method

Using DEM (Discrete Element Method), a model is presented to simulate the breakage of two-dimensional polygonshaped particles. In this model, shapes of the particles generated after breakage are predefined and each uniform (uncracked) particle is replaced with smaller inter-connected sub-particles. If the bond between these sub-particles breaks, breakage will happen. With the help of this model...

Thermal breakage of a semiflexible polymer: breakage profile and rate.

Understanding fluctuation-induced breakages in polymers has important implications for basic and applied sciences. Here I present for the first time an analytical treatment of the thermal breakage problem of a semi-flexible polymer model that is asymptotically exact in the low temperature and high friction limits. Specifically, I provide analytical expressions for the breakage propensity and ra...
